Cops taking wounded animals to the gun range and shooting them

Maybe we can find something else for target practice?

MERCED, CALIFORNIA – Merced Police are reportedly taking injured animals out to the shooting range and shooting them according to a report filed by CBS13. Animal rights activists are questioning whether this is the most humane solution to put down pets who are suffering from injuries.

According to CBS

According to a California penal code, it’s an officer’s discretion, saying in part: “…any officer… may, with the approval of his or her immediate superior, humanely destroy any abandoned animal in the field in any case where the animal is too severely injured to move or where a veterinarian is not available and it would be more humane to dispose of the animal. “No one wants to see an animal lose its life, but if death is inevitable, and it’s just being prolonged,” said Sacramento County Sgt. Jason Ramos.

Cops hiding under the blanket of “humane death”. Who made them judge, jury, & executioner. If they can do this to animals, think of what they can do to humans. Aren’t there municipal institutions that are charged with humane euthanasia? I can see this scenario: cop “accidentally” shoots innocent bystander, determines irreversible wound damage & fatally shoots him again to put him out of his misery.

Look im all for putting down sick animals when its too expensive to keep them going for the simple fact of how many perfectly healthy animals are put down waiting on families. However, taking them to a gun range to put them down? Come on thats just sick. its not something to be done for fun or to hone your skills, its to put the animal down as quickly and as humanely as possible, sticking them on a shooting range is just cruel. Im sure many of those cops dont get a kill shot on the first shot so the animal is hurt more and suffering and scared on top of that. Its just really heartless and psychotic.

There is a big difference between putting an animal out of it’s misery ‘in the field’ (as the press release states) and taking said animal to a gun range for target practice. Please follow up with information on if these acts were conducted ‘in the field’ or if the animals were dragged back to the station to be shot at the range.
