On Wednesday, the President of Young Americans for Liberty (YAL), Cliff Maloney, released a statement explaining that he had the opportunity to sit down with the Trump transition team and talk about the policy topics that millennials care about, highlighting free speech.
The focus of their conversation revolved around YAL’s national Fight for Free Speech campaign, the importance of free speech to the millennials.
Maloney, explained in his release that his organization has a total of 804 chapters nationwide, and of those, 125 of them have unconstitutional speech codes restricting them from assembling and expressing their First Amendment Rights. To fight this, he highlighted that YAL has hosted over 511 free speech events across 354 campuses nation-wide, and that the liberty group only plans to do more in the coming year.

Maloney said, ” I applaud the transition team for bringing together this coalition of young minds and hope they will do more than just pay lip service to Constitutional rights. We need to protect the First Amendment to have any chance at the rest of the Bill of Rights.”
YAL’s President wrapped up his statement with a reiteration of the expectations for himself and the incoming administration saying, “Part of my job as an American citizen and as the President of YAL is to advocate for a better tomorrow, and that means holding our elected officials – including Trump – accountable. As the President-Elect assumes the Executive Office of the free world in the coming weeks, we will watch to ensure the new Administration respects and embraces the First Amendment.”
