Workers Fired and Cited By Police For Animal Cruelty (VIDEO)

GREELEY, CO  — Weld County Sheriff’s deputies cited three men who were also fired from their jobs after they were discovered to be abusing young cows. A video from an animal rights group was released that showed the men dragging calves by their tails, legs and ears; behavior that is illegal according to the United States Department of Agriculture. [contextly_sidebar id=”66632fd6e0db5fc90f19dcfe2ba354a9″]

The Quanah Cattle Company stated that all the employees were fired and they have no knowledge the men were abusing animals. “We do not not tolerate animal abuse,” their statement said. “Since we learned about the incident we have taken immediate corrective action and terminated the three individuals seen in the video. We are now focused on re-training our employees and taking care of our animals.”

When the Weld County Sheriff’s office received a copy of the video they investigated it immediately. The sheriff cited all three men with misdemeanors for their abuse. The men were identified as Ernesto Alvarez, Tomas Cerda and Larry Loma and were believed to have been hired through a temporary agency. Quanah workers acquire newborn calves from area dairy farms and they then keep them in crates for a week before shipping them off to the slaughterhouse or a calf-raising farm.

Compassion Over Killing, the group that released the tape described the treatment of the calves as “heartbreaking” and “illegal.”
