Woman Snitches To Gov’t On Barbershop That Doesn’t Cut Her Hair, Shop Fined $750

Free association is dead, folks.

The upscale gentlemen’s barbershop Barbiere in Washington County, Pennsylvania has been fined $750 for refusing to cut women’s hair. Owner John Interval’s establishment is a place that is known for being a place where guys can come and unwind with a free beer or cocktail.

“[I] come here, talk sports, guy talk. A great place to get away after a hard day’s work, get a haircut and have a beer,” said client Robert Craig to CBS Pittsburgh.

A woman who was upset with the boy’s club complained to the state’s Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, citing discrimination laws. The agency agreed, and cited Barbiere after interviewing Interval about his business practices.

“I didn’t really consider it so much a discrimination thing as – it’s a barbershop… for guys,” Interval said.

Interval says he won’t fight the fine, but he also believes that just because he opens up his shop to female customers that he is likely to get much business from them.

“You know, I’m not opposed to doing women’s hair,” he said. “Just not in this shop. I don’t even have [the equipment] to do women’s hair. I want to open a shop to cater to them and no men will be allowed there. They’ll have all the champagne and mimosas they want, and that’ll be on the house.”

Whoever the woman is that sought to punish the barbershop is a perfect example of why we can’t have nice things. There are just some places where should be able to go and be just around other men. No, not bathhouses. Well, those too if you want, but I don’t see any women trying to get into those.

Maybe the barber can just charge ladies $250 a haircut? Problem solved. Or would that be discrimination, too?
