*VIDEO* Will the push for gun control kill American jobs?

(Ilion – NY) 1000 jobs in upstate New York are in jeopardy as a result of Governor Andrew Cuomo‘s latest firearm restriction bill, the SAFE Act passed by the state legislature. The Remington factory in the city of Ilion is slated to take a big hit due to the legislation that imposes the toughest anti gun measures in the nation. Residents of the town are nervous and upset due to the planned cutbacks. States such as South Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan, Texas, and Oklahoma have reached out to the CEO of Remington offering to house their manufacturing facility in their states.

Directly after the legislation was passed, the Governor of New York Cuomo stated: “I am proud to be a New Yorker because New York is doing something,” Cuomo said. “We are fighting back.” It’s undecided how proud the citizens of Ilion are to be residents of a state with a governor that appears more interested in scoring political points off of a tragedy than instituting policies that benefit the wellbeing of its citizens. Residents of Erie, New York have taken their displeasure with the legislation to town hall meetings where they have confronted state officials over the NY SAFE Act. One exasperated resident remarked, “I spent two years floating around the Mediterranean protecting us from the Communists. And when I get home, where do I find them? They’re here.”

Gun companies from other states are retaliating against Cuomo’s legislation. The management at Olympic Arms, Inc. recently issued a statement claiming that they will no longer do business with any government affiliated parties from New York. The statement reads in part:

Due the passing of this legislation, Olympic Arms would like to announce that the State of New York, any Law Enforcement Departments, Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders within the State of New York, or any New York State government entity or employee of such an entity – will no longer be served as customers. In short, Olympic Arms will no longer be doing business with the State of New York or any governmental entity or employee of such governmental entity within the State of New York – henceforth and until such legislation is repealed, and an apology made to the good people of the State of New York and the American people.

That’s a very bold public statement from a firearms manufacturer, especially considering that they are willingly sacrificing business for the purpose of scoring a political point. Is the statement by Olympic Arms a hint at what kind of tactics are to come from pro-second amendment factions in the future?

President Barack Obama is traveling the country campaigning on gun control while the unemployment rate currently hovers around 7.9%. Although employment has grown this year, it has not managed to lower the jobless rate. However, passing legislation that restricts the sale of guns might drive the the unemployment rate higher.
