 Are boys being punished for being boys?

Christina Hoff Sommers is a former feminist who appeared on MSNBC to argue that school is hostile to young boys and that modern culture is slanted against them.  She argues that schools are failing to make a distinction between aggression and high-spirited play. She makes the point that girls are doing much better in school and there’s a reason for that.

Sommers makes the point that even playing tag is outlawed in some schools and tug-of-war is becoming tug-of-peace. Normal, rambunctious behavior is frowned upon and even forbidden. She thinks boys are being ill-served by the American educational system and that while a small coterie of men sit at the top of wealth and privilege, more men are at the very bottom of the poverty scales in vastly greater numbers than women.
