Your government loves you and wants you to be happy. No, really.
Residents of New Orleans are facing crackdowns for offering homes for short term rental during Mardi Gras festivities. Ads popping up on sites like Craigslist are being hotly sought out by authorities looking to cash in on homeowners who might be interested in doing what they please with their own private property.
When asked what was wrong with a homeowner renting their home to tenants voluntarily, the state replied: “It is against the law.” The New Orleans Director of Safety and Permits Jared Munster is apparently no friend to private property rights.
City officials threaten that the first offense for advertising for a rental is a written warning; the second offense is a $500 fine; and the third offense is a $500 fine and 30 days in jail.
Welcome to America. Where you don’t own anything. You rent it. Unless you want to rent it. Then you don’t rent it.
