Vox Editor Who Advocated For Inciting Riots At Trump Rallies Got One-Week Paid Vacation

By Jonah Bennett

Emmett Rensin, writer and editor at Vox, was suspended June 3 for encouraging people to incite riots, engage in violence, and destroy property at Donald Trump rallies.

It turns out, the suspension lasts for only a week and is actually paid.

Rensin’s only form of real punishment is being banned from using his Twitter account for a week, after he clearly advocated for readers to engage in political violence in opposition to Trump. The background to his comments was the riots in San Jose at a Trump rally, where 300-400 protesters waved Mexican flags and assaulted and egged attendees, taking special care to target those with American flags.

Vox Editor-in-Chief Ezra Klein announced the suspension June 3, saying that while Vox welcomes differences of opinions at the paper, “direct encouragement of riots crosses a line between expressing a contrary opinion and directly encouraging dangerous, illegal activity.”

“We welcome a variety of viewpoints, but we do not condone writing that could put others in danger,” Klein added.

Since Rensin was suspended June 3, he can come back to work and start using his Twitter account again Friday.

Klein did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Caller News Foundation on whether a week-long paid suspension is an appropriate disciplinary action.
