VIDEO: UK’s Nigel Farage Slams EU As Next Soviet Union In Wake Of Migrant Crisis

Leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party Nigel Farage is accusing the European Union of moving towards a Soviet-style government.

In a fiery speech delivered in the European Parliament, Farage lamented the ousting of European leaders such as Italy’s Silvio Berlusconi and Greece’s George Papandreou under E.U. pressure in 2011.

Referring to the E.U.’s migrant crisis, Farage drew attention to the fact that four member states have opposed quotas for the number of migrants entering the E.U. but were “crushed through EU trickery and made to accept the very thing they had said no to.” (RELATED: Hungary’s Trump-Style Fence Keeps Refugees Out) 

He said the E.U.’s anti-democratic nature reached a new low after left-wing parties won a majority of seats in the parliament of Portugal and were willing to collaborate to form a government, but the President Cavaco Silva asked the largest Conservative party to form a government.

Farage said the Portuguese president refused to offer the left wingers office because they were opposed to the E.U. policy and that he was helping to maintain the pro-E.U. conservative government in office.

“This is the modern day implementation of the Brezhnev doctrine. This is exactly what happened to states living inside the USSR what has been made clear here with Greece and indeed with Portugal is that a country only has democratic rights if it’s in favour of the project. If not, those rights are taken away,” said Farage.

The UKIP leader went on to quote senior E.U. officials who appeared to show contempt for the Democratic process. “As Mr. Junker has told us before, ‘there can be no democratic choice against the European treaties,” Farage told the chamber.

Farage is set to play a major role in the campaign to take Britain out of the E.U. The precise date of the referendum has not been set but Prime Minister David Cameron said it will take place before the end of 2017.
