Trump Appears to Joke About Trail of Tears in Tweet at Elizabeth Warren

President Trump tweeted out about Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Saturday following her announcement to run for president in 2020. He appeared to make a joke with reference to the Trail of Tears.

His tweet read,

“Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for President. Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!”

Andrew Jackson was the president who forced the relocations of Native Americans. In his 1929 State of the Union address, he infamously voiced support for the Indian Removal Act. President Trump made headlines in 2017 for hanging a portrait of Andrew Jackson in the Oval Office of the White House. That portrait can be seen below.

He would follow up that interesting tweet with another. This time targeting the leftist initiative for the Green New Deal led by New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The tweet read,

“I think it is very important for the Democrats to press forward with their Green New Deal. It would be great for the so-called “Carbon Footprint” to permanently eliminate all Planes, Cars, Cows, Oil, Gas & the Military – even if no other country would do the same. Brilliant!”
