Reuters is reporting that former Republican presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman, will be nominated by President Donald Trump as the next United States ambassador to Russia.

Huntsman if confirmed would be filling a role which would play center stage amid the accusations that Trump’s administration colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.

Huntsman, on top of his presidential aspirations, is a former governor from the state of Utah, was the U.S. ambassador to China from 2009 to 2011 under President Barack Obama, and has served in various roles in 5 presidential administrations.

Following his formal nomination, the former Utah governor will have to earn confirmation from the Senate in order to affirm his selection.

Reuters reports that Huntsman had long been the assumed pick for the role and that those in Russia have met the idea with mixed feelings. In fact, it was reported that one Russian politician worried that Huntsman was “not a dove” and the Kremlin said it would welcome anyone who was a “convinced proponent” of establishing a dialogue with Russia.
