What Happens When Conservatives With Mixed Families Respond To MSNBC’s Racist Tweet?

Conservatives tweet “#MyRightWingBiracialFamily”

MSNBC did conservatives a favor when it tweeted “Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/ biracial family.” The hashtag #MyRightWingBiracialFamily, started by commentator Michelle Malkin, has had the interesting effect of inspiring countless conservatives to boldly identify themselves as “right wing.”

The news network’s unconcealed bigotry seems to have weakened the power of “right-wing extremist,” “racist,” and the panoply of other par-for-the-course smears used to silence advocates of small government. “Thank you MSNBC for exposing racism on left,” one twitter user replied. “How will you keep people in line now?”

The ad was a sequel to a similar cheerios commercial said to have generated controversy on twitter for featuring an interracial family. Yet, as John Stossel has pointed out, the media is fond of taking handfuls of racist tweets and generalizing them to large swaths of the county.
