The Top 5 Times the Media Censored Libertarians

by Darnyell Wint

1. CNN Politics During the 2014 Florida Governor’s Race

In the 2014 Florida Governor’s race, CNN Politics excluded Libertarian candidate Adrian Wyllie from the debate by not including him in their “What do you want to ask?” forum. The only two candidates they included were incumbent governor Republican Rick Scott and the former Florida governor Democrat Charlie Crist. Wyllie was polling at 10% at the time and his supporters responded vocally to CNN Politics’ blackout of Wyllie. It forced CNN Politics to delete the debate forum post.

2. Rand Paul During the 2016 Republican Primary

In the 2016 presidential election, Senator Rand Paul launched his bid for the Republican nomination. Though running on a Republican ticket, Senator Paul had adopted many libertarian principles into his campaign. He consistently finished between third and sixth among 19 other GOP contenders, yet Fox News frequently omitted the Senator from the polls.

3. Gary Johnson During the 2016 General Election

Gary Johnson was nominated as the Libertarian candidate for the 2016 presidential election. According to The Washington Times, Johnson has received a mere 11 seconds of evening news coverage, while GOP nominee Donald Trump got 1,773 minutes of coverage, and Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton got 1,020 minutes. In addition, he of course was excluded from the coming presidential debate.

4. Ron Paul During the 2008 and 2012 Republican Primaries

Ron Paul received similar treatment by the media, just like his son Rand Paul. During the first 2007 GOP presidential debate, the media completely ignored Ron’s performance and popular approval. A C-SPAN Poll had Ron Paul polling over 60%, yet the media did not cover his success.

5. Facebook’s 2016 Censorship of Various Libertarian Pages

Last is the censorship as covered by the The Libertarian Republic. The page Being Libertarian was unpublished by Facebook, along with other libertarian and conservative pages. Facebook did not issue a notice stating the content was inappropriate for its community standards, but yet similar pages were also taken down. These pages posted about inconsistencies among the “Progressive.”
