Pro-Marijuana Activist Tommy Chong: Being Disinvited to Sanders Event was “an Insult”
Earlier in 2016, actor Tommy Chong of the popular duo “Cheech and Chong” announced his endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Among other things, Chong cited Sanders support of legalizing “the super-medicine, marijuana.” Chong is among many celebrities who have endorsed the Democratic Socialist, and wouldn’t be the first to speak at a rally. That is, until Chong was suddenly disinvited hours before the event began.
Unfortunately after months of support and endorsement videos, I have to report that @BernieSanders pulled away his invite to me.

Chong went on to explain to The Hollywood Reporter that the Sanders campaign got “cold feet” due to his outspoken support for marijuana legislation:
“It’s lip service to get the votes, but they don’t want to endorse what I stand for and what I’ve stood for all my professional career…It was an insult.”
The Sanders campaign told THR that a “scheduling issue” came up, preventing Chong from appearing at the rally. Chong also spoke about this on Twitter.
Hey just heard that there was a scheduling conflict with the @BernieSanders rally!

Whatever the case, Chong plans on continuing his political activism despite this setback.
Hope to continue my support, reschedule, and continue activism, political change and promoting peace anywhere possible.
