Tom Brady Retracts Donald Trump Endorsement

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is walking back on his comments saying he thought it would be “great” if Republican candidate Donald Trump became president.

During an interview with Boston radio station WEEI Tuesday, the star NFL player said he wasn’t endorsing the controversial GOP frontrunner, saying his comments were taken out of context.

“I try to have fun with certain things, you know, but some things a lot of times get taken out of context,” he said. “I think you are just more careful with what you say because you don’t want certainly a big headline with you as saying something that’s going to take the attention away from your teammates or what you’re trying to do.”

A hat with Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” was spotted in the 38-year-old Patriots player’s locker earlier this month.

When asked in mid-September whether he thought the real estate mogul could win the election, Brady said, “I hope so. that would be great. There’d be a putting green on the White House lawn. I know that.”

Trump has overwhelmingly supported the University of Michigan alum, congratulating him on winning his deflategate legal battle during a press conference and tweeting his admiration for the athlete on a frequent basis.

The billionaire implied he took Brady’s comments as an endorsement in a tweet in early September.

“A great honor from somebody that knows how to win!” he wrote.

Brady made it clear the political sphere is not something he thinks about often.

“I don’t even know what the issues are. I haven’t paid attention to politics in a long time,” he said. “It’s actually not something that I really even enjoy. It’s way off my radar.”

The outspoken 2016 hopeful has not yet responded to Brady’s clarification.
