ENFIELD, CT – Enfield police claim that John Dewees Jr. threw his ill wife into a bathtub and beat her to death, allegedly because he was tired of changing her dirty diapers.
Dewees was arrested and charged with manslaughter after Anja Dewees was found dead in the bathtub. A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head and a skull fracture. The body was reportedly left in the tub for a number of days, during which time John Dewees never called an ambulance to report that his wife had died.
Dewees claimed that his wife had hit her head accidentally, but when interrogated by police his story was inconsistent. John later admitted that he was upset about changing his wife’s diapers every day, complaining about her drinking problems and liver issues. “He said he did this because he was upset she soiled herself and ruined the good time. When he woke up the next morning, next to Anja, she was cold and stiff,” the court documents read.
Days after her death John reported to a neighbor that he had killed his wife. The neighbor called 911 to alert the authorities to the matter.
