Conservative actor Tim Allen explained that he was “shocked” and “blindsided” that his home network cancelled his extremely popular show after six years.

Earlier this month, Allen’s show, “Last Man Standing” was cancelled in the middle of its sixth season. A season in which, as the Libertarian Republic previously reported, the show was enjoying its highest ratings.

The show averages between 5-6 million viewers an episode, which is about on par with “Law and Order: SVU,” the current season of “Modern Family,” a little under “Game of Thrones,” and six times higher than Lena Dunham’s recently ended ‘Girls’.

The sudden decsision to can the sitcom led many viewers, and conservatives to question the political motives of ABC.

ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey, however, said the cancellation was purely about ratings.

“A large part of these jobs are managing failure, and we have made the tough calls and canceled shows that we would otherwise love to stay on the air. That’s the job. I canceled ‘Last Man Standing’ for the same business and scheduling reasons that I canceled ‘Dr. Ken,’ ‘The Real O’Neals,’ ‘The Catch’ and ‘American Crime,’” Dungey said, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Last Man Standing was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings, but once we made the decision not to continue with comedies on Fridays, that was where we landed.”

Even though Allen says he was “blindsided” by ABC, Allen has expressed that he understands the world he works in. He had previously made an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” where he made sure to call out the left-leaning paradigm in Hollywood.

“You’ve gotta be real careful around here,” he said. “You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes. This is like ’30s Germany. I don’t know what happened. If you’re not part of the group, you know, ‘What we believe is right!’ I go, ‘Well I might have a problem with that.’ I’m a comedian, I like going on both sides.”

A Change.org petition, calling for a boycott of ABC, has gained more than 170,000 signatures, according to the New York Daily News.

“Last Man Standing is one of the only shows on broadcast television, and the only sitcom, that is not constantly shoving liberal ideals down the throats of the viewers,” the petition reads. “And sadly, that is likely the real reason the show has been cancelled.”
