HARYANA, INDIA – Video of two sisters who beat on three men who were sexually harassing them has gone viral. The video shows the women beating and slapping a man who it was said was threatening and abusing them. 22-year-old Aarti and 19-year-old Pooja are seen lashing out at their attackers when no one would come to their help.
“The men started to abuse me and touch me. I told them ‘if you touch me again, you’ll get beaten up’. They called a friend on the phone and told him to ‘come over because we have to beat up some girls’,” Pooja said.
“No one came forward in the bus to help us. So we took out our belts in self-defence [and hit the men]. If only the other passengers had helped us, we would not have needed to retaliate in this way,” she said.
The video shows one man trying to separate the group. The sisters say they were then pushed out of the bus and attacked again. They defended themselves by throwing a brick at one of the men, who finally fled.
The girl’s video has sparked a firestorm of support online, with Twitter users posting the hashtag #RohtakBravehearts to support the girl’s act of self defense.
