Ted Cruz’s ‘Invasion’ Ad is Legit

By Lina Bryce

Republican Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz released an unconventional campaign Ad that puts the mainstream media in its place on immigration. He emphasizes that illegal immigration is a personal economic issue to be taken seriously, while legitimately addressing the reason why you may not see too much disgruntlement from the mainstream media and professionals on the matter.

Behind the soundtrack of pending doom that plays in the background, Cruz minces no words when he says,

“I understand that when mainstream media covers immigration, it doesn’t often see it as an economic issue…I will say the politics of it would be very, very different if a bunch of lawyers or bankers were crossing the Rio Grande…or if a bunch of people with journalism degrees were coming over and driving down the wages in the press, then we would see stories about the economic calamity that is befalling our nation.”

The axiom in Cruz’s campaign ad is one that can be applied to many issues in politics today, one that embodies the “as-long-as-it-isn’t-me-who-cares?” population in America. What if the immigrants coming over were journalists who were able to work for less pay, driving the cost of labor down for those in the media field? What would the coverage look like then? For one thing, there would be a lot more stories reporting on the problems with exploitation of illegal immigrants and why it is hurting the economy.
