Attackers stormed a factory and killed one person in a suspected terror attack on a U.S.-based chemical factory in France on Friday.
Two individuals beheaded a man, put the severed head on a gate at the industrial gas factory’s entrance, and posted an Arabic-language note to it, Bloomberg reports. Then, attackers drove into gas cylinders, trying to cause a massive explosion at the plant near Lyon.
The New York Times reported one assailant waved an Islamic State flag during the attack. In addition to one death, several others were wounded.
It occurred at Air Products & Chemicals Inc., an American company that was started in 1940 in Detroit, Michigan.
French police arrested at least one attacker and suspected Islamic State supporter. The man, identified as Yassin Salhi, is in his 30s and has been known to security officials since 2006, according to The Independent. He did not have a criminal record.
The Associated Press reports that more individuals had been arrested in connection with the attack.
French officials have increased security at the country’s chemical sites.
