Hartmann also rails against monopolies. But like most progressives, he seems totally unconcerned with the government monopoly over our monetary system, our incomes, or on the use of force. Thom claims that in the marketplace we have monopolies where most of our food and media are produced by very few corporations. But in the marketplace, consumers actually do have a choice. They can choose not to buy food from certain places, or they can grow their own. Media consumers aren’t forced to consume media and even then there is still a near infinite amount of choice now with the advent of the Internet of what media you wish to consume. The market is clearly a superior mechanism for delivering peoples wants and needs compared to government which forces on us what it thinks we need (Obamacare).
