Schilling on Hall of Fame: “If I Said ‘Lynch Trump,’ I’d Get in with 90%”

By Kody Fairfield

Curt Schilling is a three-time World Series champion, a Red Sox hero and not one to shy away from controversy. Recently, he lived up to his outspoken reputation when, during an interview with TMZ Sports, a conversation came up regarding his public stances on politics and whether or not they have affected his election to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.

TMZ- Do you feel like, honestly, that it’s your outspokenness or political views keeping you out of Cooperstown and do you feel like you deserve to be in for what you did on the baseball field?

Schilling- Well I mean… they aren’t hiding the fact that they’ve stopped voting for me because of the things I’ve said on social media. That’s their prerogative as voters.

TMZ- What’s your opinion on what some people think is your political views keeping you out… do you think that that’s fair?

Schilling- It doesn’t matter, ‘fair’ doesn’t enter into it. My dad told me that once you turn 18 and leave the house, ‘fair’ goes out the window. The world is not trying to treat you ‘fair,’ the world is not looking to do ‘fair’ things with you. They’re not gonna vote for me, the people who have said they aren’t going to vote for me because of the ‘character clause.’ They’re some of the worst human beings I know…voting. There are scumbags all across the [inaudible]… I don’t want that to be the ‘ya but’ for me. If they don’t believe my baseball talent merits me getting into the Hall of Fame, then so be it.

TMZ- Is the character clause itself ‘fair,’ do you think? Should it be considered I am asking, not ‘fair?’

Schilling- Here’s the thing, it’s not used in all cases, they kind of pick and choose when to use the ‘character clause.’ I promise you if I had said ‘lynch Trump’ I’d be getting in with about 90% of the vote this year.

Schilling’s career numbers argue hard for his induction into Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame. After all, across his 20 year career, he won 3 World Series championships, held an 11-2 postseason record with a 2.33 ERA and amassed over 3,000 strikeouts.

With numbers that impressive, it seems that it would have to be the PC culture and “character clause” that keeps him out of Cooperstown.
