The world is on notice following President Donald Trump’s decision to authorize an airstrike on a Syrian airfield in response to the Syrian government’s alleged use of chemical weapons on their own people. While Trump has stated, the he is not afraid to hit Syrian President Bashar al-Assad again, it appears that many of the country’s allies are unafraid of the US President’s threats.

The Sun is reporting that Russia and Iran have said they will respond to further American military actions following the airstrike in Syria last week.

The two countries released a join statement, according to the Sun, which detailed their sentiments toward the strike and any future actions. The statement read:

“What America waged in an aggression on Syria is a crossing of red lines. From now on we will respond with force to any aggressor or any breach of red lines from whoever it is and America knows our ability to respond well.”

It was only sometime earlier that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani condemned “flagrant US aggression on Syria” regarding the US airstrikes on the Syrian airfield.

The Sun reports that Rouhani, a key ally of Syria and President Assad, has called for an impartial investigation into the chemical attack that killed at least 70 people.

He warned that the American strikes in response risked escalating extremism in the region, reported Iranian state television, said the Sun.

“Allegations that Syria launched the chemical attack were just a pretext to disrupt the Syrian peace process,” Rouhani told Assad during a phone call, the Sun says.

SANA, the Syrian state news agency, reported that  Assad told Rouhani the Syrian people and army were “determined to crush terrorism in every part of Syrian territory” – a reference to the rebels who have been fighting his bloody rule for six years, explained the Sun.

He also thanked Rouhani for Iran’s support for “the Syrian nation”

Rouhani  also criticised US-allied Gulf Arab states for supporting the airstrikes, says the Sun.

“Unfortunately, there are countries in our own region which encourage America’s acts of aggression.” He warned: “Your turn will come too,” said Rouhani.

The Sun reported that Saudi Arabia hailed the strike as a “courageous decision” by Trump and a Saudi ally, the United Arab Emirates, declared they also supported the action.

Both countries are part of the US-led coalition fighting ISIS in Syria.
