“Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.” Austin Petersen debates on Russia Today

The Editor in Chief of The Libertarian Republic Austin Petersen stopped by Thom Hartmann’s show Tuesday to discuss whether spending money on infrastructure is a boost to the economy. Does building roads really stimulate growth?

Petersen argued that although infrastructure spending sounds like a good idea, countries like Japan have made great strides privatizing their rail transport. Also, as government doesn’t operate on a profit motive, spending money on infrastructure during a recession is one of the worst things you can do because there are no proper signals to tell whether or not the “investment” actually pays off.
