Rep. Amash: Staff and I Looking to Establish Independent Commission on Russia

As the US tries to navigate the tumultuous sea following the odd timing and circumstances of the firing of FBI Director James Comey, by President Donald Trump, and how this impacts the ongoing investigation into a potential Trump-Russia relationship, a Republican congressman has said he is looking to establish an independent commission on the situation.

Conservative stalwart Justin Amash of Michigan met the calls for an independent investigation with this tweet:

My staff and I are reviewing legislation to establish an independent commission on Russia. The second paragraph of this letter is bizarre. https://t.co/wXeDtVIQiP

Amash has been a principled conservative thorn in the side of President Trump, since the President’s inauguration. Attempting to hold the President accountable for straying away from a conservative platform.

Amash’s comment at the end of his tweet is in regard to the note sent to Comey alerting the former FBI Director of his firing, which read:

“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgement of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau.”
