Women are protesting a statue of comedian Woody Allen in Spain following sexual misconduct allegations against the director, according to a report Monday.
The Asturias Feminist Organization is trying to get a statue of Allen, which is a major tourist attraction in Oviedo, removed after the director’s stepdaughter Dylan Farrow, 32, accused her stepfather of molesting her as a child, reported The New York Post. The organization believes the statue honors “an abuser and pervert,” added The Local.
Vicente Menéndez Santarúa designed the statue that was erected in 2003.
Allen filmed portions of his 2008 flick “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” in Oviedo. He praised the city, calling it “delicious, exotic, beautiful, clean, lovely, tranquil and pedestrianized.” Despite Allen’s positive feelings about the Oviedo, the city will consider moving the statue during an upcoming meeting.
Farrow has previously called out Hollywood’s hypocrisy for ignoring allegations that her stepfather sexually abused her, after crafting a letter The New York Times published in 2014. She spoke publicly Thursday in an interview for CBS News and reiterated the allegations that the famous director sexually assaulted her.
