The University of Tampa fired Tuesday a professor who suggested that Hurricane Harvey was “instant Karma” for Texan Republicans.

The university condemned Professor Kenneth L. Storey’s remark and said it did “not reflect UT’s community views or values” in the statement sent to the school’s community.

“I don’t believe in instant Karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas,” said Storey Sunday afternoon. “Hopefully this will help them realize the GOP doesnt [sic] care about them.” (RELATED: Professor: Texans ‘Deserve’ Harvey Because They Voted For Trump)

“We condemn the comments and the sentiment behind them, and understand the pain this irresponsible act has caused,” said the university. “Storey has been relieved of his duties at UT, and his classes will be covered by other sociology faculty.”

The school concluded its statement expressing awareness and sympathy of the devastation caused by the hurricane.

“The feedback around the university has been of shared frustration, as Storey’s comments were not representative of UT’s values nor its people,” said Eric Cardenas, UT’s director of public information and publications to The Daily Caller News Foundation.
