Police Will Check Your Meth To See If It’s ‘Laced With Deadly Gluten’

Local police departments are asking drug dealers to bring their meth in for testing to make sure the product is not “laced with deadly gluten.”

The Newark Police Department in California posted to Facebook May 4 offering the community a chance to get their illicit narcotics tested for the protein. The post quickly attracted attention and has more than 190,000 shares on Facebook. It is unknown if the humorous offer has drawn any takers, but police departments will often attempt to lure drug dealers to their stations with similar posts, reports Q13 Fox.

The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office in Oklahoma took out a newspaper ad in 2015 encouraging drug distributors to turn each other in.

“Is your meth laced with deadly gluten?” says the post from the Newark Police Department. “Not sure? Bring your meth down to the PD and we will test it for you for free!”

The Tecumseh Police Department in Oklahoma followed the California police force’s example, posting a similar offer to Facebook Monday to drug dealers in the area. It promises to test your meth for gluten and emphasizes the process will not cost a dime.

Methamphetamine production and addiction is a growing problem in Oklahoma. Deaths from the drug rose from 271 in 2015 to 328 in 2016. Meth is fueling more addiction and death in Oklahoma than heroin or other opioids.
