Police shot up a car full of teenagers Monday, killing one.

Two Denver police officers fired several shots at a vehicle when the 16-year-old girl driving it allegedly tried to run them over.

The girl, identified by friends as Jessica Hernandez, died at the hospital, New York Daily News reports. One officer was hit by the car, but was released from the hospital with a leg injury, the Denver Post reports.

The officers are on leave and the incident is under investigation.

“We’re angry about it,” Cynthia Valdez, friend of the killed girl, told NBC News. ”It’s another life taken by another cop.”

Police said they checked on a suspicious vehicle and then learned that it was stolen. When they approached the car, they say the driver tried to hit them with the car. That’s when they opened fire.

This is the third time in seven months that cops have shot people they claimed were using cars as weapons, the Denver Post reports.

Police have not said if anyone in the car was armed. A parent of one of the teens in the car said her child did not know the car was stolen.
