A professor at a public university in Georgia had security escort a police officer from his enrolled class because he was carrying his holstered firearm. The incident took place at Darton State College in Albany, Georgia, on Wednesday, according to NBC affiliate WALB.

The school has apologized to the officer and corrected the professor.

“Darton State College is appreciative for the service of our law enforcement, and welcome them as students on our campus,” interim provost Thomas Ormond said. “We have apologized to the officer for our misunderstanding when he attended class on our campus, and we regret this happened. We have met with the faculty and staff involved to reiterate the Georgia Law and Darton Policy.”

Neither the officer involved nor the professor were named.
