Poland Seeks to Arrest 98 Year Old Former Nazi Commander

By Grant M. Deltz

According to prosecutors, Poland will be seeking the arrest and extradition of a 98 year old Minnesota man for being a former commander in a Nazi SS unit that killed many Polish people and burned villages.

Michael Karkoc, from Minneapolis, was identified by the Associated Press after prosecutors released only a first name and last initial.

Karkoc’s family has repeatedly denied the claims. His son, Andriy Karkoc said,

“There’s nothing in the historical record that indicates my father had any role whatsoever in any type of war crime activity.”

In 2015 German prosecutors shelved a case with Karkoc due to medical concerns, deeming that he wasn’t suited to stand trial.

His family claims he suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

The Polish seem much more adamant in their pursuit of Karkoc than the Germans.
