LONDON, UK – The British monarchy is embarrassed after a video and photo was leaked which appears to show the current Queen Elizabeth being taught to perform a Nazi salute as a child. Buckingham Palace is bracing for the fallout after it was announced that a new documentary will be released which is aimed at uncovering sympathies of certain royal family members for Hitler.

The film seen below was shot in 1933, six years before World War II and only months after Hitler first came to power. Elizabeth, 7 at the time, is seen alongside her uncle Edward and her mother. Edward is seen teaching them to perform the Nazi salute, which is a sign of fealty to the fuhrer.

Military historian James Holland stated to the AP that “I don’t think there was a child in Britain in the 1930s or ’40s who has not performed a mock Nazi salute as a bit of a lark.”

The documentary will purportedly explore the relationship between Prince Phillip’s sisters and the Royal Family, three out of four of them were married to Nazi senior officers. Phillip was seen once during a funeral in 1937 in Germany giving the Nazi salute, while later his three sisters would be excluded from future royal wedding invitations for their ties to the Third Reich.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews doesn’t think that this is anything to cause a fuss over regarding the Queen’s loyalties. President Jonathan Arkush said: ‘It’s really important for us not to judge this, even with hindsight. Obviously the Nazi salute now carries horrible memories and bitterness for us, but I do not think for one moment that it would be appropriate for me to suggest that the full horror of Nazi Germany was known at that point.’

It is well-known however that Queen Elizabeth served dutifully against the Nazis during the war. Less well-known however is the fact that the pledge, known as the Bellamy Salute, was quite common in the United States as well. In fact, the pledge of Allegiance to the American flag originally called for what became known as the Hitler salute, or the Roman salute, while reciting the pledge.

American historians rarely teach this bit of history, despite the fact that there are public historical records of photographs which show American schoolchildren saluting the American flag in such a manner as well. There are rumors that somewhere in the American archives is a photograph of Woodrow Wilson performing the same salute.
