Clinton Fan Group Admin Leaks Members’ Private Stories to Cash in w/ Book Deal

By Kitty Testa

In a self-enrichment scheme worthy of former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, the organizer of the private Facebook group Pantsuit Nation is planning to release a book this coming May. 33-year old Libby Chamberlain will use posts from the private Facebook group as source material for her literary offering, basically plagiarizing the stories of Clinton supporters who thought they were simply sharing their hopes, dreams and feelings among like-minded thinkers.

Several members of Pantsuit Nation were infuriated by the move, even though Chamberlain shared her altruistic vision in a Facebook post on December 19.

Tonight we have a very exciting message from Libby ❤️

PANTSUIT NATION, I have some news…
I am *beyond* excited to announce that there is going to be a book. A Pantsuit Nation book. A book of YOU. A book BY YOU. A permanent, beautiful, holdable, snuggle-in-bed-able, dogear-able, shareable, tearstainable book. Your voices. Your stories. Our community. Our project. Our message of hope and change.

Several group members expressed resistance to the idea. Here are some examples. (I have deliberately left out names due to the fact that many of these posters complained that they believed the group to be private and object to their stories and identities being revealed and exploited.)

Libby, this is a betrayal of safe space. You can’t invite people to share intimate thoughts and feelings in a secret group then summarily, as an individual, change those terms. Something sacred has happened on this page and I don’t believe it belongs to you to share, sell, or in anyway reveal to those not in the group.

Pantsuit Nation perhaps you can explain to us why we had been warned that Libby was trying to profit from week one? We ignored it, but now it appears they were telling the truth. Shouldn’t she have been honest from the start and avoided all of this?

Oh look. Another white woman making money at the expense of people of color and other marginalized groups. This is really disappointing and literally the opposite of the intent of this space. I came here for solidarity not to be a part of a marketing test audience.

Some posts suggested that Chamberlain should at least pay those whose stories she uses in the book, and some Pantsuit Nation members were supportive of Chamberlain, and chided those who protested.

Chamberlain also announced that she was organizing a non-profit 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) using the Pantsuit Nation moniker for “advocacy, education, and political action,” but did not elucidate any further.
