Zero Tolerance Gone Too Far?
The Virginia Beach Public school system suspended Khalid Caraballo and his friend Aidan for “possession, handling and use of a firearm” because they “shot two other friends who were with them while playing” with the airsoft guns.
Airsoft guns are non-lethal toy guns that shoot plastic or foam pellets. Aidan shot another child playing in the neighborhood and the parent’s of the child called 911. An investigation done by the school claimed that the children were shooting people near the bus stop. They also claim the 911 caller said their son was shot in the arm and head, but the 911 caller did not actually say that.
The airsoft guns were not discharged within the area of the bus stop, but that doesn’t matter. The school wants him to be expelled . Khalid’s mother thinks the school is operating way out of its jurisdiction and a hearing will decide their fate this morning.
