On February 23rd 1945, Warenn (Renn) Bodeker liberated a Japanese prison camp, rescuing 2,100 prisoners of war and saving their lives before the enemy could kill them all. Now, he says he’s ready to jump behind enemy lines again… but this time, he’s heading to Washington D.C.

Renn Bodeker from Plains, Montana is making his way to Washington to serve on an honor guard to ensure veterans can access their monuments. Renn served in the Company B, 551th Parachute Infantry Regiment during the war and he’s not about to see the freedoms he fought for get taken away.

The Oathkeepers have issued a call for their members to travel to Washington D.C. in order to establish the guard posts. The participants would gather at the monuments in order to ensure that veterans have access to them in spite of the government shutdown and barricades. They plan to establish posts every day, from dawn to dusk from October 16th to the 20th.

A statement about the honor guard on their website reads:

“… starting Wednesday, October 16, Oath Keepers is establishing a rotating “Honor Guard” of volunteer veterans and concerned Americans at the WWII Memorial, to ensure that WWII vets can get in to pay their respects to their fallen brothers in arms.   They risked all, in combat, to stop arbitrary, oppressive governments over there.  We need to step up and keep them from being victimized by arbitrary, oppressive government here.  Let’s get it done!

patch_tab_combo_frontThe Oath Keepers are a non-partisan organization made up of former military, police and first responders. Their guiding principle is that they adhere to their oath they swore to support and defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. They argue that it is the duty of the military and police to refuse to obey unlawful (unconstitutional) orders, such as disarming the American people or violating Posse Comitatus.
