As reported by Independent UK, in an interview with the BBC’s Panorama, acting leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP), Nigel Farage, has walked back some of his support for United States’ Republican nominee for President, Donald Trump.

Farage, who has made appearances at some of Trump’s rallies, was asked to respond to question regarding Trump’s comment on women and what sounded like sexual assault, that were caught on a 2005 audio tape with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, to which he said he believed they were, “ugly.”

“There is no question that this recent tape, ugly as it is, has really hurt him badly, of course,” Mr. Farage told Panorama.

“I just saw this whole thing as sort of, an extreme form of alpha-male boasting – it is the kind of boasting that some men do – it doesn’t mean that they actually do it.”

Farage also made remarks on the reasons he believed that, even with a lot of people being offended or turned off to Trump via these comments, most of Trump’s most ardent supporters would continue to support their nominee.

“You know, there are lots of things in this campaign that I couldn’t support in any way at all and nor do I. But I spoke to people who were Trump voters … and do you know what – they couldn’t care less,” Mr. Farage added, according to The Guardian.

“They couldn’t give a damn what Trump says, who he offends, because they see him as their weapon against the establishment and they see Hillary as being the epitome of that establishment.”

Farage’s step back from Trump, albeit not a formal dismissal of the candidate, adds to the list of leaders who have made effort to distance themselves from Trump. Many of those leaders having come from within Trump’s own party.

With only a few weeks left until the November 8 election, it will be interesting to see if this apparent hold in the Trump campaign’s shi, will take on too much water to defeat Democratic nominee for President, Hillary Clinton.
