New Poll Shows Trump Hitting 70% Unfavorable

By Phillip Stucky

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s unfavorable ratings increased among women and white male voters to 71 percent in a new poll published Tuesday.

In an ABC/Washington Post poll, Trump’s overall unfavorability rating rose 10 points. Trump’s favorability ratings decreased to 29 percent from 37 percent in a poll published in May. Among registered Republicans, Trump’s favorability is 65 percent.

Trump stated throughout his campaign he will earn the vote of minorities, specifically Latinos. The poll found Trump had an 89 percent unfavorable rating among Latinos, 94 percent unfavorable among blacks and 88 percent among other non-whites.

The numbers are hardly better for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Clinton’s unfavorables rose to 55 percent from 45 percent a few weeks ago.

In another poll Tuesday from Bloomberg, Trump is behind Clinton 48 to 35 percent, with 8 percent of respondents supporting Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson. A recent poll published last week included Green Party candidate Jill Stein, who used her four points to detract from Clinton’s lead.

Both major party candidates enjoy similar enthusiasm within their own party; 54 percent of Republicans say they are at least a little enthusiastic about Trump, and 55 percent of Democrats say they are at least a little enthusiastic about Clinton.

Sixty-four percent of respondents said they believed Trump was going to continue to say things Republicans don’t like, compared to 30 percent who thought the Republican front-runner would tone down his statements as time progressed.

When asked what candidate was becoming more appealing over time, 45 percent of respondents said Clinton was becoming more appealing, compared to 33 percent for Trump.

The ABC poll had 1,000 respondents, 750 whom stated they would likely vote. The questions were asked of the 750 likely voters. The 800-person survey from Bloomberg was conducted from June 10 through June 12. Most of the respondents were polled before the Orlando terror attack took place. The ABC poll was conducted from June 12 to June 13.
