New Leaders In Jamaica Want to Legalize Marijuana and Ditch the Queen

There’s a new sheriff in town – or in the case of Jamaica, new political leadership – and they are looking to clean house.

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen announced a long list of plans in his most recent throne speech for a  new session of the Jamaican Parliament. Included in those announcements was a plan to remove the Queen of England as the figurehead leader of the country and move to a republican political system.

Other plans include the full legalization of marijuana for “specified purposes.” This is most likely code for various regulations and restrictions, because allowing adults to do whatever they want as long as they don’t infringe on the rights of others is just too complicated and difficult to implement. So only certain people with certain qualifications will be allowed to use certain types of cannabis at certain times and they will probably be taxed heavily for the privilege.

Yeah, mon! Limited legalization may eventually come to an island country mainly known for producing “stoner” icon Bob Marley.

And as for the Queen: “No, woman, no cry.”
