Nature Society Working To Make Bird Names Like “Negro” Less Racist

By Arnt Rune Flekstad

Sweden has for many years gotten a name as the most politically correct nation in the world. One could almost say that the list of topics that one should always avoid in public debates is longer than the one that is recommended. And if you are one that reacts to the Obama administrations socialistic tendencies – they are child’s play compared to the level you find among any Swedish political party or politician. From the so-called conservatives to the deep red communists, everyone seem to love the deeply rooted welfare state.

For seven years the Swedish Ornithological Society has been ordered to study all 11,709 names of bird species. Why? To suggest new names based on their opinion if the names could be interpreted as racist or in any other way don’t “feel right”. And the seven years has not been in vain. Over 4000 has now been given new name suggestion.

Excerpt from the Swedish magazine – Birds in our World:

”The work with the list of names has had an ambition that any bird name should not include any words that could be associated with name calling and racial slur. Just about where to set the line of such a task is a somewhat gray area. In the list that now presents new names of species we can see that old names that in any way used to also include the terms gypsy, kaffer, negro or hottentot has been replaced. Names that include “lap-” has been kept since they have been considered being named after the landscape of “Lapland”.”

racistbirdSo it’s over and done for the negrofink, the gypsybird, or the kaffersailor, and several others. How many millions of tax payers money that has gone into this quest has not been revealed – although we suspect there was quite a few considering the number of bureaucrats and time spent.

Quite a lot of protest has arrived in the wake of these decisions. But as you might guess, not from the Swedes themselves. The Danes on the other hand have been sending angry letters and discussing this in the media, and seem to think the Swedes are the laughing-stock in Europe. Especially also after the Swedes themselves not long ago decided that the popular children character and books – Pippi Longstocking was also racist and had to be revised.

”We thought there would be some reactions, but not this much” says research engeneer Erling Jirle at Lund University.

There seem to be no end as to what tax payers should fund and what government officials and politicians should meddle with. If you ever ask “what would happen” if the path with big government spending and control continues for the next decades? Well – take a look at Europe, and especially the Nordic countries. A place were prisoners are treated better than the elerdly. Where over 70 % of everything you make falls into the hands of the politicians every year. And where over 50 % of its citizens get their pay or welfare cheque from the government.
