Minneapolis Police to Wear Body Cameras
Minneapolis Police officers will start wearing cameras starting in 2014. 500 officers will start wearing cameras next year, with a test group of 25 officers beginning immediately. The cost to the taxpayers will be $312,000 yearly, but that is offset by the fact that the city has paid $8 million in settlements over officer misconduct over the last five years. Police officials believe that the addition of cameras to their daily duties will help them avoid frivolous claims of bad behavior.

The use of body cameras for police has long been supported by the ACLU and civil libertarians as a means of protecting the rights of citizens and the credibility of law enforcement.
