Missing Iowa Jogger Mollie Tibbetts May Have Been Spotted In Missouri

Police in Kearney, Missouri, responded to a possible sighting of Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts, who has been missing since July 18.

Tibbetts, 20, was reportedly sighted at a truck stop on July 26, more than 230 miles away from where she was last seen, reported ABC News.

Police “conducted a search of the area, spoke with witnesses and reviewed any potential surveillance video,” according to ABC.

Tibbetts vanished after she went for a run near the small town of Brooklyn, Iowa, on July 18, reported Fox News. She was living at her boyfriend’s house at the time of the disappearance, but the boyfriend, Dalton Jack, was out of town the day she went missing.

Police think Tibbetts may have returned home after the run because it appears she did homework on her computer the night of July 18, reported KCCI.

Police have chased down more than 200 leads in the case. Investigators are examining Tibbetts’ Fitbit tracker since it has a GPS feature. Her phone has not been located. Investigators have also conducted canine searches, reported ABC News.

“Law enforcement and hundreds of others have devoted countless hours to the investigation,” said investigative director Kevin Winker of the Iowa Department of Public Safety, according to ABC News.

Tibbetts is a rising sophomore at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
