The Market Has Already Solved iPhone 7’s Headphone Jack Problem

Apple got mixed reviews for ending the headphone jack in the new iPhone 7, but a new accessory is making the outlet accessible once again.

A hardware developer based in Austin, Texas, created a case that has the traditional 3.5mm audio jack and can attach to the phone.

The vast majority of people have traditional headphones that fit into the usual 3.5mm audio outlet, which are compatible with a number of devices. That size audio jack has been used for generations of technology.

“We wanted to design something beautiful, of course. But we also wanted something [dramatic pause] useful,” Diego Prince, cofounder of the apparatus, says in a video on his crowdfunding page.

“What people put into their own ear holes is a very personal choice, and it’s a choice we should all get the chance to make–not one that should be made for us.”

Prince and fellow co-founder Troy Osinoff plan to start shipping the add-on, officially called the Fuze Case, in December, if they are able to reach the listed fundraising goal of $60,000. People who contribute to the crowdsourcing page can reserve the accessory for $49, along with shipping and handling fees.

Apple got rid of the headphone outlet to seemingly create more physical room to develop and apply new features to the device.

But there are other potential reasons for the removal, including boxing out third-party payment systems. Some consumers have complained that the adapter is too small, and thus easy to lose.

Apple reportedly provides a 3.5mm audio jack adapter that fits into the charger with each purchase, in an attempt to help resolve some of people’s complaints and concerns.

The new add-on also has the usual capabilities of other more advanced cases, like a built-in battery pack that provides extra eight hours of power, and, of course, extra fortification for the phone.
