A Chinese husband was stripped almost naked with a sign around his neck after he pocketed some of his own wages instead of handing them over to his wife.
Chinese husbands are obliged to turn over their entire salaries to their wives as part of tradition. Wives are the ones who are tasked with handling a families financial affairs. Yul Pan was castigated after it was learned that he kept some of his money for himself. His wife discovered some of his money in his trousers when she was doing the wash.
Furious, Pan’s wife demanded that he suitably apologize by stripping down and wearing the sign around his neck and prove to the neighbors that he was a suitable husband and provider. Pan obeyed, put on the sign and sat outside in front of crowds, repeating how he was sorry until he was finally allowed back inside the home.
The sign read: “My dear and wonderful wife, I know I made a mistake, I will hand in all my payments in the future.”
