Man Drowns Himself Using Concrete Block With Wife’s Head Inside

From Germany, comes this strange and disturbing tale of murder suicide. A 71-year-old-man killed and dismembered his wife, encased her head in a concrete block and then used that block to drown himself in a Austrian lake.

The Guardian reports:

Officials said the couple were a 72-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife from near Frankfurt in Germany, but did not identify them further.

The woman’s head was found in a block of concrete in a bag attached to one of the the man’s hands, and his other hand was also weighed down.

The corpse and the bag were recovered by police divers from the waters of Traunsee on Monday. A day earlier, two suitcases containing the woman’s remains were found floating close to the lake’s shore near the town of Gmunden.

The man, whose body was found in around 15ft of water, had two bags attached to his wrists containing “commercially available granite stones” and “personal tools,” Austrian police said.
