Male Sex Offenders’ Transgender Surgeries Could Cost Taxpayers Over $100,000

Six male sex offenders plan to get gender reassignment surgeries, which could cost English taxpayers almost $100,000.

The sex offenders currently reside in a male prison where 71 percent of the inmates have committed sex crimes against children, reports the Daily Star.

The inmates can wear female clothing and can spend $30 a week from their prison bank accounts on makeup.

“HMP Whatton has 12 transgender patients, six of whom are on the pathway for gender reassignment,” an Independent Monitoring Board report revealed.

Before receiving surgery, the six receive consultations with the Nottingham Gender Clinic. Each surgery would cost between $12,180 to $17,052.

“Prisoners receive the same NHS service as the public,” a government spokesman said.

In the late 1990s, British murderer Douglas Wakefield received a transgender surgery. Wakefield was in prison for killing an uncle who teased him about his sexuality. He also killed a fellow prisoner after strangling him with a shoelace and then stabbing and beating him to death.

Michelle-Lael Norsworthy, born Jeffery Brian, has been in prison since 1987 after being convicted of second-degree murder. Brian alleged that he suffered from “severe gender dysphoria.”

The judge ruled in his favor, declaring that the only way to properly treat his condition was by allowing him to undergo transgender surgery.

The judge claimed that “the weight of the evidence demonstrates that [the] only adequate medical treatment for her gender dysphoria is [sex reassignment surgery].”
