Zolnikov May Take High Office, But Unique Challenges Emerge

Former Navy SEAL commander and Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke has been appointed by President Elect Donald Trump as Secretary of the Interior. Who will fill Zinke’s seat if the Senate votes and confirms Trump’s pick? The state of Montana will hold a special election no more than 100 days after if Zinke is successfully confirmed.

One inspiring and liberty minded candidate considering running is Montana’s very own thrice elected State Representative, Daniel Zolnikov. Montana’s up and coming leader has a proven record of standing up for the 2nd amendment, civil liberties, fiscal responsibility, and limited government.

He’s also not afraid to defy tradition, endorsing the Libertarian Party’s presidential candidate Gary Johnson this summer.  When asked what was wrong with politics, Zolnikov stated, “Politics has so much negative rhetoric and no solutions.  Everyone in politics hates each other.  The whole process is broken.”  The solution, Zolnikov said, “starts with how you treat people. I know I am not perfect, but I try to treat every member very well.  Approaching members across the aisle with positive dialogue is a good start.  I try to find anything we may have in common. There is (sic) always commonalities, you just gotta be willing to look for it.”

Democrat Amanda Curtis has expressed an interest in the seat. There’s an online poll that’s being taken here that people can vote their preferences in.

Some controversial news circulating on the world wide web is that white nationalist Richard Spencer is also showing interest in challenging others for the open seat.

“I’m definitely thinking about it,” said Spencer, speaking with the Missoulian by telephone from Union Station in Washington, D.C., where he was waiting to catch a train. “To be honest, I recognize it would be a difficult process. I recognize all the difficulties of it. But I think it might be a great prospect. I believe it would create an important conversation around Montana and the country.”

Zolnikov and Zinke both spoke out against alt-right founder publicly on their Facebook page.

Is liberty in the hearts and minds of Montanans? We’ll find out soon. Daniel Zolnikov would be a great pro-liberty candidate working alongside other RLC elected officials. Will love trump hate?  Or will liberty have to wait for another year?
