If You Leave Your Brights On In China, Police Will Force You To Stare Into Beams For 5 Minutes

6ada77dbjw1eixb4am3p2j209w0bmjrrThe town of Shenzhen in China is starting a new program to punish drivers who leave their brights on in people’s faces. Traffic police are threatening to force citizens who do so into staring into the high beams for five minutes.

A posting on the official social media page of Shenzhen police reads, “You still dare to use your headlights carelessly? If so, then starting from now we’ll make you stare at our high beams for five minutes.”

Most of the reactions to the threat were positive. “An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth! This punishment should be popularized. When can it be used to deal with red-light running or hit-and-run?” wrote one user.

But not everyone was supportive: “It will do harm to the driver’s health and may cause more danger on the road as the driver will get tired after the punishment. We’d better think twice before judging this kind of punishment,” wrote another.

Police have also threatened to tack on an additional $49 in fines on top of the corporal punishment.
