Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov feigned ignorance over the firing of FBI Director James Comey at a joint appearance with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson Wednesday.
Lavrov was responding to a question from MSNBC reporter Andrea Mitchell about whether President Donald Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey would cast a shadow over talks on the Syrian Civil War. He reacted with surprise.
“Was he fired?” he said. “You are kidding, you are kidding.”
Lavrov is in town for the first time in nearly four years to try and sell the U.S. government on signing onto a ceasefire plan, that the U.S. government still has many questions about.
