White was allegedly involved in an altercation after they had claimed to find illegal drugs on him earlier. White was handcuffed and placed in the back of the vehicle after a search which turned up no weapon.

When White arrived at the Sheriff’s office he reportedly became uncooperative and refused to exit the vehicle. Trooper Stephen Hammons claims that White then produced a handgun and shot himself in the back. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

“Once at the Sheriff’s Office, White became uncooperative and refused to exit the deputy’s patrol vehicle,” Hammons said. “We’re investigating how he got the gun,” Hammons reported. “It’s too early in our investigation to comment further.”
