Jackpot! Here’s How Much Government Takes From $1.4 Billion in Powerball Winnings

Congratulations to Eric Bragg of California, one of last night’s three winners. Of course, government is the real winner here, just like every Powerball jackpot, they’re walking away with a nice chunk.

Out of the $1.4 billion the federal government will walk away with nearly half a million– around $400 million, according to MarketWatch.

Of course, before you get too worked up– remember, the lottery is one way which government can generate funding through voluntary participation; unlike taxation.

Still, the government is undeniably the reining Powerball champion. It wins every time.
